How a ball press machine works and its applications

The ball press machine is primarily used to compress powdery materials that are difficult to shape. It features high forming pressure, adjustable main motor speed, and is equipped with a screw-type feeding mechanism. Commonly referred to as a "powerful ball press," "mineral powder ball press," or "double-roll ball press," this equipment is widely employed in the production of spherical pellets from both non-ferrous and ferrous metal ores. These pellets can then be directly fed into furnaces for smelting, significantly boosting their added value. Essentially, any metallurgical industry waste or auxiliary material that needs to be processed before entering the furnace—such as dust collection ash, slag mud, oxide scale, steel slag, iron concentrate powder, aluminum dross, silicon-manganese ore powder, and more—can be efficiently handled using this ball press machine. The working principle of the ball press machine: The main motor of the ball press machine transmits power via a V-belt to a gearbox. Inside the gearbox, the motion is transferred through a coupling to the drive shaft, which then engages with an open gear pair—ensuring that the two roller shafts rotate in perfect synchronization. Meanwhile, the driven roller is held firmly against the hydraulic cylinder piston (in constant-pressure systems, it’s pressed by a wedge-shaped iron). System pressure is maintained by the hydraulic circuit, along with specialized hydraulic control valves and an accumulator unit. Material flows uniformly from the storage bin into the machine’s hopper, thanks to a precise metering device. Once inside the hopper, the material is regulated by an adjustable gate, ensuring even distribution as it enters the gap between the counter-rotating rollers. As the rollers rotate at equal speeds but in opposite directions, they gradually compress the material, increasing the forming pressure step by step until it reaches its peak at the centerline of the rollers. Beyond this point, the pressure rapidly decreases, allowing the material to transition smoothly into the "ball release" phase, ultimately facilitating effortless ejection of the formed balls.
