A pellet press is a forming device used to compress powdery materials—such as lime powder, mineral powder, magnesium powder, and more—into compacted pellets, making it suitable for a wide range of industries. How a Ball Press Machine Works
The material in the pre-compressed hopper of the spiral press is forcibly fed through the die of the pelletizing machine into the center between the counter-rotating rollers. As the rollers rotate at equal speeds but in opposite directions, they compress the material, causing the unit forming pressure within the material to gradually increase—reaching its peak value precisely along the line connecting the centers of the two rollers. Once the material passes this central line, the unit forming pressure begins to decrease steadily, eventually leading the material into a state where it detaches from the pellets until complete release occurs.
If the speeds of the main machine and the pre-press are adjusted properly, this machine can form parts in a single step. However, when returning the screened-out material to be mixed with new material for re-pressing, it’s important that the returned material doesn’t contain excessively large clumps. If the returned material does include overly large clumps, or if the mixing ratio between returned material and fresh material exceeds 50%, it’s advisable to slow down the rotation speed of the pre-press screw—otherwise, the pre-press motor may easily become overloaded.
Brief Overview of the Ball Press Machine Structure
Pre-compression section: The pre-compression machine is driven by a variable-frequency motor, which transmits power via belt pulleys and a turbine reducer. Under the forced action of the screw shaft, the raw material enters the feeding nozzle and is delivered to the main unit. Thanks to the constant-torque characteristic of the variable-frequency motor, when the material feed rate of the pre-compression screw matches the required feed rate of the main unit, a stable feeding pressure is maintained, ensuring consistent briquette quality. However, if the material feed exceeds the optimal level, the pre-compression machine’s motor will overload; conversely, if the feed rate is too low, the material won’t form proper briquettes. Thus, skilled operational techniques are crucial for maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of the briquetting machine.
The main unit: Depending on the output shaft of the gearbox, ball press machines can be divided into two types: single-output ball presses and dual-output ball presses.
a. Single-output briquetting machine: The main unit is driven by an electric motor, which transmits power via a belt pulley and a cylindrical gear reducer to the main drive shaft roller through a pin-type coupling. Synchronization between the two pairs of rollers is ensured by a pair of open gears. The bearing housing of the passive roller is held in place by a hydraulic cylinder; if the feed rate becomes too high or if hard objects are present, the passive roller automatically slides, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the main unit.
b. Dual-output press machine: The main unit is driven by a motor, which in turn activates a hardened-geared dual-output gearbox via a pin-type coupling. This gearbox then drives two roller shafts through a drum-shaped gear coupling, ensuring that the two rollers rotate synchronously in opposite directions. One of the roller shafts has its bearing housing pressed against it by an oil cylinder; if the feed rate becomes too high or if hard objects are present, the passive shaft automatically slips, safeguarding the integrity of the main unit.
Sifting Section: The sifter uses a standard single-slot, double-layer vibrating screen as its feeding mechanism. This screen is driven by a vibration motor, which not only shakes the material for efficient separation but also simultaneously conveys it out of the machine. The machine housing can be customized and modified based on the configuration of the customer’s existing equipment—for instance, it can be fitted with a belt conveyor that extends beyond the machine and connects seamlessly to the customer’s designed and integrated vibrating screen system.
The hydraulic station section: This series of pelletizing machines currently features an integrated hydraulic oil pump station, complete with an oil tank, pressure gauge, and all necessary valves—including solenoid valves—built into a single unit. To operate, simply connect the oil outlet hose to the cylinder oil line on the main unit. During use, adjust the pressing hardness setting to achieve the desired pressure level. Once the pump station reaches the preset pressure, the pump motor will automatically shut off. If the cylinder pressure exceeds the set value, the relief valve will activate to release excess pressure, ensuring both the overall stability and extended service life of the pelletizing machine.
